Our morning started at home with a visit from the Young Inspire Community (YIC) for their “GENZ CHARITY EVENT.” In celebration of Youth Month this August, our kids loved welcoming these passionate young leaders, who brought not only generous donations and food supplies, but also something even more precious — their time, stories, and life experiences.
Every time we welcome visitors who are willing to share their life journeys with our kids, we see their faces light up. They are always so happy and inspired by these visits, and they truly love hearing everyone’s unique stories.
We believe these opportunities are so important for our kids. Giving them the chance to meet different people, hear different stories, and experience different perspectives helps them see beyond the world they know at Little Hearts. It allows them to learn about different situations in life, understand challenges from different points of view, and discover possibilities for their own futures. Sometimes, one story, one conversation, or one new experience can open their eyes to a whole new way of seeing the world.

After an enriching morning, we headed into Phnom Penh to attend the UN Youth Advisory Panel (UNYAP) Cambodia event at the CJCC, celebrating International Youth Day & UNYAP’s 20th Anniversary — “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
We were especially proud to attend because one of our very own Little Hearts staff members is an active member of UNYAP!
Listening to youth leaders advocate for education, youth participation, and overcoming systemic obstacles gave our kids another powerful opportunity to look beyond their everyday experiences and understand the wider world around them.
Danny: “I was deeply moved by his story of overcoming hardship and challenges as part of an ethnic minority group while continuing his studies. His perseverance really inspired me.”
Micky reflected: “The more I listened, the more I appreciated how lucky we are that we have Little Hearts to support us.”
Dalin walked away with a renewed focus on his future, noting how deeply he now understands and appreciates that education is crucial, no matter what status or background you have in life.
These are the moments we hope to create more of for our kids — moments where they can step outside of what is familiar, meet people from different walks of life, listen to different stories, ask questions, learn from others, and experience perspectives they may not otherwise have the opportunity to encounter.
Because education is not only what happens in a classroom. It is also about seeing the world, experiencing different realities, understanding others, and discovering what is possible for yourself.
It was a full and busy Sunday, but seeing our kids leave feeling inspired, grateful, curious, and motivated made every single minute worthwhile.
