A Special Day: APD BANK Comes to Visit

Last Sunday, 11 May, we received a special visit from our sponsors at APD BANK. Many of their staff came to Little Hearts, and some brought along their children – about 20-25 people in total. This informal get-together was part of our ongoing partnership with APD; we’re always happy to organise events and spend time with our benefactors!

The visit started with a short tour of our facility, led by Malee (now in Grade 12) and Elizabeth (who is now a university student studying tourism, so she was the ideal guide!). After the tour, we gathered in the dining area and kicked off our first activity – making origami! We formed three teams, each a mix of Little Hearts residents and visitors. Our kids taught everyone how to fold paper into birds, and it was fun to watch everyone work together and enjoy the moment.

After a short snack break (thank you, APD BANK, for bringing snacks – very thoughtful!), we moved on to our second activity: collaborative art. The origami birds we had made were carefully glued onto a big canvas on which Michael and Dalin had painted a large tree to yield a striking piece of appliqué art. The logos of Little Hearts and APD BANK were drawn by Ilay in the two upper corners of the canvas and painted by Elizabeth, Malee and some of the guests.

What does the artwork signify? The tree laden with colourful origami birds shows how we are all connected to the same web of life, even though we all come from different places, beliefs, professions and economic situations. The image reminds us that we are part of a big family, and that everyone matters.

It was a beautiful afternoon filled with laughter, learning and connection. We are grateful to APD BANK for their support and for spending time with us, and we extend a special thanks to the CEO, Mr. Thoo Kim Seng. We look forward to more moments like this!
