With May 14th — King Norodom Sihamoni’s birthday holiday here in Cambodia — falling on a Thursday, the children at Little Hearts had a short break from school before the weekend. Instead of just resting, they spent Saturday helping around the home. The day was a mix of cleaning, organizing, relaxing, and spending time with Tony.
One of the main activities of the day was refurbishing and organizing the library after Little Hearts received a large donation of books. The girls helped sort and arrange the books on the shelves, making the library easy for everyone to enjoy. The new books included many different stories, educational books, and children’s books. We would like to thank Cuffeine (a local plant-based cafe brand) and the Reading Lounge Library for donating the books to us.
Aside from the library work, all the boys worked with Tony to clean and organize the barn, a covered area in front of our building where we store materials we don’t use frequently, like the Christmas tree and extra chairs and tables, as well as the kids’ bikes. Everyone helped and worked as a team throughout the day.
After finishing their tasks, the children started looking through the newly donated books to find their next reads. The afternoon turned into a time for relaxation, with many of the kids quietly enjoying their books of choice. It was a nice balance of being active and productive while also spending time at home with Tony.
