What’s Going on at School?

Today we’d like to highlight the academic achievements of some of our school students. As you may remember, all our school-age children moved to a new day school, the Sovannaphumi School, last year. All of them have coped well with the change of learning institution and are on track to complete the academic year. But a few have shone especially.

In Grade 12, Ben has consistently ranked in the top two students in his class, while Dalin is also doing very well, usually ranking in the top five.

In the younger grades, Jules is maintaining a steady B average, and Sammy deserves special plaudits for his determination to improve, having traded his C average for Bs in most of his subjects for the past several months.

And then there is Naomi, now 11 years old and in Grade 6. She frequently earns As and is always among the top few students in her class. She is also consistently the best learner in her afternoon English course here at Little Hearts, so much so that in June we moved her from the primary group to the secondary group (mostly Grade 9 and up, including our university-level students).

Recently, she was one of two students chosen to represent Sovannaphumi at an inter-school reading competition, part of the Phnom Penh District Reading Test Program. This is a yearly event for primary school kids in which each student has five minutes to read a given text related to general knowledge and must answer questions about it. Naomi placed fourth in her age group among the many competitors participating from 16 different schools – a great result!
