As she did two years ago, Patricia (Tony’s sister) will again take part in the gruelling Dodentocht (Death March), a 100 km race held annually in Bornem, Belgium. The participants (13,000 runners) must walk or jog 100 km within 24 hours. This year’s event – the 56th edition of this iconic race – will start on Friday, August 8th, at 9 pm. Racers must make it to the finish line by the same time on the next day in order to receive their medal. Patricia, a veteran of the contest having completed it five times, is already training for it by taking really long walks (up to 50 km in a day) in the nearby countryside and woods.
As in the past, she will use the race to raise funds for Little Hearts by accepting sponsorships. Whereas she always had the financial support of many friends, neighbours and family members, this year she’s going all out to recruit sponsors (individual as well as corporate) from around the world. So, if you or your company or someone you know would like to participate in the race virtually by sponsoring Patricia, please get in touch with us as soon as possible by writing to Patricia at Patricia.geeraerts1940@gmail.com. Sponsorships in any amount will be accepted gratefully by Patricia and all the kids at Little Hearts. During the race itself, sponsors and other supporters will be able to check on Patricia’s progress almost in real time, as participants in the race are fitted with an RFID tag and their position is recorded at various checkpoints. She can be tracked via her race number, which is 9105 this year.
Please help us reward Patricia for the extraordinary effort she is making on our behalf. All the proceeds from race sponsorships will go directly towards Little Hearts’ general budget to ensure that the kids continue to receive the attentive care we’ve always prided ourselves on, as well as adequate medical care and a comprehensive education at Sovannaphumi School and beyond.
Go Patricia!
