A Letter to Your Future Self

Last Sunday the kids took part in a time capsule activity. They wrote letters to their future selves, drew some pictures, and chose a few small mementos, then they stashed everything into a box that will remain sealed for the next five years.

When we open the box in 2030, we’ll be able to reflect on how much will have changed by then. We will also undoubtedly be able to celebrate the kids’ development and watch as they reconnect with their younger selves. Thus, the time capsule will be a gift from the present to the future, a way for each child to say, ‘This is who I was, and this is what mattered to me back then’. Some of the questions they were asked to consider as they wrote to themselves were ‘What do you want to remember about today?’ and ‘What are your current hopes, dreams and fears?’ and ‘What goal do you want to achieve by 2030?’

That’s the overall concept, anyway. But it’s also just fun to leave oneself a note to be read in the future, a bit like finding a message in a bottle, or welcoming back a probe that has travelled deep into outer space.

How the kids answered and what they wrote down… that’s all a secret for now, to be revealed only in 2030! We hope that all our friends, supporters, sponsors and extended family members – all you readers – will still be with us, and we promise to share a few quotes from the time capsule then!
