A few days ago we received a generous donation of over 30 boxes filled with goodies from Goodhill Enterprise, one of Cambodia’s leading providers of supply chain management solutions (sourcing, distribution and warehousing). The boxes contained all manner of edible treats: chips, snacks, chocolates and cookies. All the children eyed them with eagerness, their mouths already watering…
Before anyone could open the snacks, though, some of our older kids were already saying, “Wow, that’s a lot of goodies. We can’t possibly eat all that stuff by ourselves. Perhaps we can share them with the community kids who attend English classes here. Or we can load some on the tuk-tuk and distribute them to kids who live in nearby villages.” The spirit of sharing is well ingrained in our children – something we’re very proud of. So that’s exactly what happened: all the community English learners got some treats the next time they attended lessons at Little Hearts, and we delivered many boxes to Songkheum Thmey, a new settlement for homeless families that Little Hearts helped previously with a clean-up drive and donations of food.
At Little Hearts, we strive to earn the generosity of our donors by ensuring that our kids enjoy a healthy upbringing in a loving home, and especially by endowing them with a good education so that they may meet the challenges of the modern workplace once they move on. We share our donors’ goodwill with the surrounding community by offering free English classes to kids from nearby villages, supporting indigent families in S’ang district and at Songkheum Thmey, and helping our neighbours on an ad hoc basis. But we cannot do any of this without your financial support. Like elsewhere in the world, living costs have increased sharply in Phnom Penh in the last two years, so continuing to give the best possible care and education to our residents and supporting the wider community through these other programs requires continual fundraising. Please consider contributing to our cause, either financially or in kind.
If you are uncomfortable making blanket donations, please remember that you may earmark the donated funds for specific purposes. Recently, a big-hearted couple from Singapore did just that. Yennie and Jay came to visit our campus and were impressed with our dedication to quality education and family values and decided to become involved. But rather than donating to our general expense fund, they opted to finance specific goods, such as food items and educational materials. This type of contribution gives them the peace of mind that their funds are being used to support purchases or activities that they believe are especially important, and it helps Little Hearts enormously by ensuring that certain crucial needs are met consistently. Thank you for your kindness, Yennie and Jay. We hope to find many other amazing donors like you.
While we’re always asking for support from both new and continuing donors, we’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has stood by us in the past with donations both big and small, including benefactors from Tony’s home country (Belgium) and supporters like Patrick in the US, Frederica in Turkey, Suzana in Singapore, Bronwyn in New Zealand, and Berwick and Silke from Moo Moo Farm, who are practically our neighbours here in Akrey Ksat. It’s thanks to enthusiastic contributors like you that we’re able to continue our mission to create a secure and prosperous future for the kids of Little Hearts. We couldn’t manage it without you guys! Happy Easter from the entire Little Hearts family.
