Meet our new staffmember: Morgan

Say hello to a new face in the Little Hearts family! Morgan has been living and working in Asia for 8 years. For 5 years she worked as a teacher and for the last 3 years she was school principal of the Harrods Academy and Bluebird British International. Bluebird is the kindergarten that some of our youngest kids went to and where Morgan and Tony got to know each other. When Morgan heard about Little Hearts, she wanted to get involved and decided to come and lend a hand during her free time over the weekends. The children stole her heart (those little heart thieves) and after a few months she knew she wanted to do even more for the organisation. Since then Morgan has been working fulltime at Little Hearts and she has become one of the family. To put it in her own words: "Everyday something new and exciting happens and I can't wait to enjoy these experiences for many more years to come." You rock, Morgan!

Annuntia goes musical for Little Hearts

On 17 November there was a different sound than usual in the church in Wijnegem. The beautiful notes of Ensemble Alegria, a choir of music lovers and a professional baroque orchestra, could be heard as they performed the Kröningsmesse and the Requiem by Mozart together with Aidomen and 4 soloists. This wonderful concert which was a beautiful blend of vocals and instruments was a real treat for music lovers and enraptured the audience. This performance was part of the preparations of the journey of Annuntia's final-year students to Little Hearts in Cambodia. This kicks off a wonderful initiative launched by Mr Erik Symons.  Stay tuned as you will be hearing a lot more about this effort in the months ahead.

University ... here we come

From now on we are going to involve the children more and more in writing articles for our Newsletter. They like the idea and the challenge ... No better way to begin than with our two students who just started Uni last month:

"My name is Sarim, this is my first year at university and I have started my Marketing degree. I chose this degree because I am very interested in what goes on 'behind the scenes' to sell or make a product. This degree will teach what there is to know from theory to practice. I am enjoying myself and I can't wait for the future. This is something I am passionate about and with passion comes success. Thanks to all of you for making this possible."

"My name is Saradee, I am currently in my first year of Graphic Design at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. This is something I enjoy doing. Drawing and designing comes very easily and naturally to me. I have just started my degree and so far, I am enjoying every minute of it. In the future I would like to have my own design company that creates new and exciting brands for other companies. I want to push the limits of design and try and create things that no other designers can. I look forward to the next few years of learning more ways to improve my skills. Thank you for this opportunity."

Artiesten in the making!

Ilay, Saradee, Michael and Dalin, or should we say Picasso, van Gogh, Rubens and Monet? For quite some time now, our kids have been participating in Sunday afternoon art classess. We can safely say that some of them turn out to be very good at it! Sapor Rendall, a loyal friend of Little Hearts, came by a few weeks ago to see their beautiful works. She was so captivated that she asked the kids if they wanted to paint her garage door to turn it into a true work of art. The result was breathtakingly beautiful and Sapor was so impressed that she asked to paint two family portraits as well! The beginning of a promising future, right?

Warm, warmer, warmst!

The Warmest Week started on December 18th and like every year Little Hearts is one of the registered charities. Last year, your numerous actions raised 1000 Euros. Many enthusiasts were encouraged to do their bit this year. We heard about a range of activities including: Cake for life, biscuit sales, selling Christmas cards, the warmest soup, taking on challenges, the warmest party. Your endless efforts are indeed heartwarming.

Celebrations for 2020 are already off to a great start! On November 30, Monique, Katrine, Tineke and Gerrit organized "The warmest party" in honor of Little Hearts. They proved that a good party needs nothing more than nice people, danceable music and a big heart for Little Hearts. It was an evening to be proud of and brought in the staggering sum of 7656 euros. A fantastic gift that makes us very happy!

A heart of wood? Say gold!
"Santa Claus come in with your servant!" That is what the colleagues of Houthandel Martens will undoubtedly have sung on 6 December. Two of their colleagues, Michiel and Jimmy, arrived in the early hours to their workshop in Schoten. We know that doesn’t sound strange... but they didn't just do that! Dressed as St. Nicholas and Black Pete, they walked from their hometown Grobbendonk to Martens Hout. They braved the rain and wind for a heroic trip of 22km. Their efforts earned them 5500 euros from sponsors which went entirely to Little Hearts. A big thank you for your inspiring commitment!

Little Hearts goes “Creative”

Dimitri, one of the driving forces of Little Hearts who, from the very beginning and with incredible drive, has ensured that everything related to the organization is well managed in Belgium, is of course a regular visitor. Every time he puts together a very cool activity. This year he organized "The Indian Tribe Games " which focused on creativity. Each tribe got a certain amount of materials and had to work on the design of a WigWam or Tippi and create their own typical attire. In addition, they invented the craziest battle cries, totems and special greetings. To fraternize the tribes, the day ended with a large campfire and songs led by the chief Christophe.

A lot of shops including Bol.com, Hema, Decathlon, Coolblue, A.S. Adventure participate in this, as does takeaway.com, collect&go, Lidl, and many more!

Quick steps to register with Trooper:
